[Note Guidelines] הערת הצלם
Common Yellow Lichen (Xanthoria parietina), probably the commonest of the lichens because of its resistance to air pollution, this particular image is just a very small part of a much larger image or an even large patch of this lichen, which is growing on the trunk of an Ash Tree (fraxinus excelsior) which is part of a layed field hedge. the trunk measured approximatly 6ins - 150mm thick and 2ft - 600mm tall and was almost completely covered mainly in the Xanthoria parietina with some small patches of a grey lichen which can be seen in the bottom corners.
For more details about them please read the notes and links in my other postings of Xanthoria on a hawthorn Twig and Xanthoria on Elderberry 1 also xanthoria on Elderberry 2.
I spotted this patch a couple of weeks ago in the hedge outside work but the light has beeen too poor to have a go at getting an image. Tonight as I was leaving work at 5.30pm the sun broke through the clouds for a few minutes sa walked up the road a took a few shots while the light lasted, hope you like.

Wonderful curves and textures here! I would love to see it in full sunlight, but I imagine it might be harder to get a good photo. Maybe I should hop a plane to the UK?? I love all the colors and textures. Well done.

Great colours and textures Robert. The sunlight has brought out all the golden tones. Nice and sharp too. Well done.

Maybe common but still beautifull. I like shapes and saturated colours, sunlight painted it with gold! Another common organism we all know very good and underestimate. And when we take closer look - yes - it turns amazing. Great post Rob!
