Heteroptera is a group of 25,000 species of insects (also called true bugs) in the order Hemiptera. The word "Heteroptera" is Greek for different wings: most species have forewings with both membranous and hardened portions (called hemelytra); members of the primitive infraorder Enicocephalomorpha have wings that are completely membranous.

The name Heteroptera is used in two very different ways in modern classifications; it commonly appears as a suborder within Hemiptera, but also as a rankless (non-Linnaean) but monophyletic grouping of infraorders within the suborder Prosorrhyncha of the order Hemiptera.

The infraorders Gerromorpha and Nepomorpha contain most of the aquatic and semi-aquatic members of the suborder, while nearly all of the remaining groups that are common and familiar are in the infraorders Cimicomorpha and Pentatomomorpha.

Hi Norbert,
Excellent shot! Very good lighting, great composition and POV, nice colours and details.
Very well done!

fabulous insect portrait with dramatic power and magical depth. The beaming light from the side is phantastic against the depths of a very dark background. Details of the leaf and the bug are just excellent.
This capture has such a strong impact by its high qualities as a piece of art that I do not even think of asking the question about the species presented. This picture is a perfect story of its own. Excellent work!
Thank you! Best regards,

Great shot Norbert! Such an interesting bug! I thought that it could be so tiny! But you got it perfectly! Those red antennaes are stunning! Great details! I love the framing also, composition wonderful! It's like a dream with black bg! Perfect shot, exceptional absolutely! Congratulations!

Hi Norbert,
Very nice shot. I like the spotlit effect most of all, against this dark BG. Excellent use of F5.6, with great visual impact.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Norbert

Hi Norbert,
interesting bug with beautiful colours. Would suggest a tighter crop for composition, as the green BG at top and left do not add much. DOF is very shallow at f/5.6 but the light probably did not allow more. The lighting coming from an angle is magical, beautifully accentuates the subject. Well done!

Hello Norbert, well caught this Heteroptera with a splendid light and very nice colors. I like this POV too, very well done, Didier.

This posting has some excellent qualities. The best IMHO are the dark BG and the Lighting which is just perfect for me. The sharpness, POV and DOF are also great. TFS,

What I like most o your shots is who you always get advantage of the shot DOF, and make it artistic. Light very well managed too, which melts the subject with th BG. A nice work!

Hi Norbert,
I know you are no longer active on TN. But its my only way to say that the ID issue is resolved thanks to the book of E. Wachmann et al. 2008. Wanzen Vol. 4. The bug is called Aelia acuminata (L.) (Heteroptera; Pentatomidae; Getreide-Spitzwanze; Bishop's Mitre).
Best regards
